Baby Red Fox

Monday - April 20, 2020

Yesterday we received this adorable little ball of fuzz!

The homeowner is trying to train his dog on an electric fence and when the dog took off, she came back with this little red fox. Soaked in slobber, the man wasn't sure if the kit was hurt at all, but ventured out to try to find the den in the event reuniting was possible. No such luck. He then went to Tractor Supply for formula to at least try to help it overnight. It was there that he crossed paths with a Soulshine supporter who gave him our contact information for rehabilitation! We are at the Cedar Springs TSC quite a bit and appreciate the team there being on the lookout for ways to help!

The little guy does not appear to have any injuries, but was definitely thin and dehydrated. We deworm all animals at intake and he is LOADED with roundworms. Gross. This is one of the reasons we encourage people to not handle wildlife without gloves...parasites are real and without thorough cleaning, you never know what microscopic organism is hanging around.

We are getting the worm issue under control and have also been challenged with him not wanting to drink out of a bottle and being absolutely terrified by a bowl (we've tried a few different dishes and he either runs from them or growls and barks at them). Finally, this high maintenance little man accepted formula from a syringe! He's a chatterbox to say the least, but it shouldn't be long until we have another fox come in for him to buddy up with. For now, he has a few stuffed animals and we will be purchasing a Heartbeat Animal as well.

As a 501(c)(3) nonprofit public charity, your support is what allows us to take on cases like this little red fox. Thank you!
